Why Build a Knowledge Base

When learning new skills you need to understand your subject from the foundation up. If I  want to become competent in the area of instructional design I need to understand what learning is and how people learn. To this end I need to be able to understand the different learning theories, and how they will affect any instructional design I do in the future. When you are a member of a professional body you also need to be able to understand the terminology, so when collaborating with other professionals you can understand and communicate efficiently. To build this knowledge base I will focus on three theories: Behaviorism, Cognitivism and Social Learning.

My goal in compiling this knowledge base is to develop an understanding of each theory and how I can use them in in future projects. I would also hope to build a reference guide that I can keep adding to and use for future reference.
